What would you like to find?

Keeping you safe online

During the month of July, all library members will be given the option to opt into using an authentication app when logging into Spydus online library management system.

MFA is a security measure that requires users to use an authentication app to access their online library account membership.

To keep you safe online, we recommend you opt in.

While MFA is optional for library users, it is highly recommended you apply it, as it adds an extra layer of protection beyond passwords, making it more difficult for unauthorised individuals to gain access to your account.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MFA and why is it being introduced?

MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) adds an extra layer of security when you log into your library account. It helps protect your personal information and borrowing history from unauthorised access. This change aligns with Camden Council’s commitment to cyber safety and best practice.

Do I have to use MFA to access my library account?

No. MFA is optional for library members. However, we strongly recommend enabling it for better protection of your account.

How do I set up MFA on my account?

When you log into Spydus during July, you’ll have the option to opt into using an authentication app. You’ll need to download an authenticator app (like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator) and follow the on-screen instructions. A short video guide and help sheet will be available to walk you through the process.

What if I don’t have a smartphone or can’t use an authenticator app?

At this stage, only authenticator apps are supported. We’re exploring options to include SMS and email verification in future phases. If you need help, please speak to a library staff member.

Can I get help setting it up?

Yes! Library staff are trained to assist you with setting up MFA. Just ask at your closest Library. We’ve also prepared a video tutorial and printed guides to make it easier.

Will this affect how I borrow books or use library services?

No. MFA only affects how you log into your online library account. It won’t change how you borrow books in person or use library facilities.

What happens if I forget my MFA code or lose access to my app?

Please contact the library team. We can help you reset your MFA settings and regain access to your account.
